FLOOD REMEDIATION

Client: City of Thunder Bay Water Pollution Control Plant
Specialty: Industrial Contracting

Venshore Mechanical Ltd. was awarded as General Contractor to complete total plant remediation after the May 2012 flood. The project consisted of new and remediated equipment, electrical, control, painting and re-insulation of all flood affected areas of the plant. The completed project consumed over 500,000 man hours of labour and over $50 million in restoration costs.

Remediation work and clean up entailed sewage and debris cleaning throughout the plant while electrical and mechanical trades replaced motors, starters and dried-out switch gear. The plant was back in operation seven days following the flood, and in full process thirty days after.

After primary disinfection and clean up electrical trades began removing old cabling, cabinets, and trays. Insulators stripped sewage-soaked insulation while mechanical personnel dealt with the heating and ventilation equipment. Secondary cleaning and full replacement of all flood effected items including re-classification of areas to meet today’s NFPA and ESA codes.
